If you have an Ecoboost that is from late 2012 up to some 2020, then your car will have a wet timing belt.
The wet timing belt synchronises the cam shafts with the revolution of the crankshaft. The belt runs in oil, hence the term wet belt. Hydrocarbon's in old engine oil degrade the belt and it then basically falls apart, belt particles then block the oil pump pick up which causes oil starvation and damages the internal engine parts. Eventually the belt either snaps or the teeth fall off which causes catastrophic failure.

Here at NorthWest Engines, we would advise getting the original belt changed by 50k miles. Also, doing regular oil and filter changes, every 6k miles, helps lessen the amount of hydrocarbon's that build up in the oil.
We offer timing belt changes here at NorthWest Engines. Due to us being Ecoboost specialists, we have the correct knowledge, skills and tools to be able to offer this service for considerably less than other garages. Give us a call to receive a no obligation quote.
